The Phoenix Business Journal recently spotlighted Roers Companies’ expansion in the Grand Canyon State. The article by Angela Gonzales showcases recently opened Solana Villas — pictured here — as the first of several properties to welcome residents in Arizona. The interview with Executive Vice President Shane LaFave, who oversees our new development activity at Roers Cos., revealed plans to bring about 1,800 apartment homes to low-income renters throughout the state. Our active Arizona project locations include Buckeye, Casa Grande, Maricopa, and Flagstaff, while additional cities throughout the region are included in our long-term development pipeline.

All of Roers Cos. Arizona projects are designated for lower-income residents, which is particularly vital for renters in the Phoenix area where the median one-bedroom apartment rent has increased by more than 32% since 2019.

“The demand for housing, especially affordable housing is high,” Shane LaFave said in the article. “The Phoenix MSA has grown 1.4 to 1.6% each year for at least five years. The national average for growing MSAs is closer to 1%. Phoenix is on the higher end. When you look at adding a lot of housing to an area, you want to make sure the population is going to be there to support it.”

“If you go tour it, you wouldn’t really be able to see much of a difference from market rate projects,” he said about the quality of the affordable housing we’re building nationwide at Roers Cos.
