CWC Block Party

On August 22, Community Within the Corridor (CWC) in Milwaukee came alive with music, food, and more as residents, neighbors, and partners gathered for the inaugural Corridor Block Party. The event was about connecting and equipping the people who make this neighborhood so vibrant.

Children lined up for face painting, and local entrepreneur and artist Ray Nitti provided music throughout the day. Families enjoyed barbecue. Guests received backpacks filled with school supplies and groceries from a pop-up food pantry. Adding to the celebration, many local community partners shared resources and support, including Safe & Sound and the Milwaukee Police Department.

The event marked the reopening of the CWC East building, which welcomed new residents this summer. For Roers Cos. COO Shane LaFave, the block party was “the capstone of a five-year effort to reimagine the building” and a moment to shift from construction to connection. “This was our way of saying, ‘We’re here. We’re glad to be part of the community, and we’ll be here for the long term,’” LaFave said.

The idea for the block party came from Regional Manager Shanna Modisette, whose heart for connecting people shaped the event. “It’s a passion of mine that all our properties give back — that we are a part of the community as much as we are in the community,” Modisette said. What began as a school supply drive quickly grew into a citywide collaboration, with more than ten organizations contributing to the day.

At Roers Companies, we believe our developments are more than walls and roofs — they are communities. The Corridor Block Party was a reflection of that vision.

With great turnout and excitement for the future, the Corridor Block Party set the tone for what’s ahead: a community strengthened not just by buildings, but by the people who call it home.
