Roers Companies Co-Founder and Owner Kent Roers was recently interviewed by Authority Magazine as part of their “Five Things You Need to Know to Succeed in the Real Estate Industry” series. The article, authored by journalist Aaron Weiner, highlights Kent’s entrepreneurial journey, lessons learned from early challenges, and the leadership values that have helped Roers Cos. become a national leader in multifamily real estate.

In the interview, Kent shares the backstory behind the company’s founding: how he started with small investments in lease-to-own homes with his brother and fellow Co-founder, Brian Roers, and how that passion evolved into a fully integrated real estate firm with projects in more than a dozen states. He reflects candidly on his experience during the mid-2010s oil market collapse and how that shaped the company’s commitment to product and geographical diversification for long-term resilience.

Kent also offers five lesser-known insights for real estate success, including the importance of hiring for complementary strengths, learning from competitors, and building strong relationships across all aspects of the business. “It’s not (just) about ‘location, location, location,’” he says. “Success in real estate is really about ‘relationships, relationships, relationships.’”

Looking ahead, Kent discusses some of the company’s most exciting current projects, including affordable housing developments and The Boulevard, a 75-acre mixed-use redevelopment in Plymouth, Minnesota. He also outlines opportunities and challenges in the industry, including barriers to affordable housing and the need for modernization in housing policy.
