At Roers Companies, we believe that sustainable living is not just a trend but a responsibility. As a multifamily real estate company with projects throughout the United States, we are committed to being good stewards of the planet. This Earth Day, we are proud to highlight some of our sustainable initiatives and projects that showcase our commitment to sustainability.

Renewable and Efficient Energy Efforts

Integrating renewable energy sources into projects is crucial when looking to minimize environmental impact. In Arizona, all Roers Cos. projects in development feature solar panels, harnessing the power of the sun to provide clean, renewable energy. Additionally, Roers Cos. prioritizes energy efficiency by using high-efficiency HVAC systems and ENERGY STAR® appliances. By investing in renewable and efficient energy solutions, Roers Cos. is not only reducing its carbon footprint but also lowering operational costs for its residents.

As the popularity of electric vehicles (EV) continues to rise, there is an increasing demand for EV charging infrastructure. Including EV chargers in development projects helps meet this demand while also serving to partner with EV drivers looking to adopt a more sustainable transportation option. By promoting electric vehicles, developers can help reduce emissions and support a cleaner environment. Risor of Blaine, one of Roers Cos.’ newly opened properties, features EV charging stations, and our team plans to equip all future sites with this popular amenity.

Historic Redevelopment Projects

Part of Roers Cos.’ portfolio includes redeveloped historic buildings. One such example is Carlton Lofts in Cloquet, Minn., where an existing building — what once was Cloquet Middle School — was transformed into a vibrant multifamily property. After sitting vacant for nearly three years and sustaining damages from vandals,  the city welcomed the redevelopment plans to reinvigorate the building. By reusing the existing structures, Roers Cos. reduced waste and preserved the unique character of the property, maintaining the gymnasium and auditorium as amenities for residents. Historic redevelopment projects not only contribute to sustainability but also revitalize communities and create unique living spaces.

Green Building Certifications and Looking Ahead

As the development industry evolves, green initiatives and certifications are playing a pivotal role in promoting sustainable building practices. Roers Cos. is a part of this movement, committed to achieving green building certifications for its projects. The Wildwood at Main in Sun Prairie, Wis. is an example of this, receiving a Wisconsin Green Built Home certification. Looking ahead, multiple projects underway are pursuing National Green Building Standard (NGBS) certifications including Rowe in Victoria, Minn. and Marisol in Port Charlotte, Fla. NGBS provides builders with a detailed framework for designing and constructing green homes. Unlike other green building standards that may focus solely on energy efficiency, the NGBS takes a holistic approach, ensuring that certified homes are green in all aspects, including indoor environmental quality and community impact. This certification indicates a dedication to environmentally friendly building practices but also sets a new standard for sustainable development in the industry.

This Earth Day, we celebrate the beauty and diversity of our planet and remember our responsibility to protect and preserve it for future generations. As we look to the future, Roers Companies remains committed to sustainable development and building a better world for all.
